Sequim is situated on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington
State, home of the Olympic National Park and the Olympic
National Forest, which contains one of only two temperate
rain forests in this hemisphere. The Olympic Peninsula is
bordered by the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the north, with
beautiful Victoria, British Columbia just beyond, and the
Pacific Ocean to the west.
Visitors will find Sequim is the perfect destination for
almost all recreational activities. Enjoy guiding a kayak
or sailboat through the pristine waters of Sequim and
Dungeness bays.
Visit Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge and the Dungeness
Spit, which is the longest natural sand spit in the United
States. The Spit is a wonderful place to view birds and
marine life in their natural habitat. Located at the end of
Dungeness Spit you will find the New Dungeness Lighthouse
staffed 24-hours a day and contains an active light.
Sunny Sequim, also know as the banana belt, features a
variety of farms and gardens that are open for public
tours. Under the beautiful sunshine, you can pick lavender,
a variety of berries, flowers, organic vegetables and more.
Sequim is the official lavender capital of the nation. The
city even has a festival dedicated to celebrating lavender.
Sequim is world renowned for “The Sequim Lavender Festival”
that takes place annually during the third weekend in July.
The fragrant purple herb can be picked at U-pick farms from
July to Oct. 1. Sequim is also world renowned
The soaring Olympic Mountains decorate the city’s southern
border and the waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca create
a northern boundary. Sequim’s ideal weather is the envy of
other coastal towns and all of Western Washington.
For a true taste of the region, visit Sequim’s Open Aire
Market where local growers sell produce and artisans sell
their handcrafted items. Be sure to pack your bike, kayak,
golf clubs, and binoculars to further enjoy our lush
valley. The Olympic Discovery Trail provides bicyclists,
pedestrians, runners, and equestrians a year-round
opportunity to explore the northern Olympic Peninsula.
When completed the Discovery Trail will cover 120 miles.
You might also want to bring a bucket to pick lavender or
berries, or hit the beach for some clam digging. Sequim is
also famous for the flavorful native Dungeness crab.
